Fuzie and Clark Lead Yetis
The Cleveland Community College Cross Country team competed at the JWU Wildcat XC Challenge hosted by Johnson and Wales University.
Top runners for the Yetis were William Fuzie (Kings Mountain '20) and Lily Clark (North Gaston '21). Clark ran a personal best over the 5K course at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC in 26.47.4. Clark's time was the the second fastest 5K in the history of the women's program. Fuzie, a sophomore, posted his 3rd best 8K time finishing in 38.06.6.
According to Coach Steve McCachren, the meet marked the first time that three Yeti women runners all finished a 5K in under 29 minutes. Clark, Anastazia Rodriquez (North Gaston '21) and Lindy Jenkins (Pinnacle, '20) were the three to finish under 29 minutes. "I'm excited and encouraged with how we ran yesterday," said McCachren. "Several firsts were achieved including our average time for our 5 women runners averaged under 30 minutes." The five member squad includes Eliana Philbeck (North Gaston, '21) and Rylie Carroll (Kings Mountain, '21)
Several personal records were achieved including a new PR over an 8K course for Jackson Arey (Burns, '21). The Cross Country team will next compete October 30 at the Region 10 Championships hosted by Patrick & Henry Community College at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, VA.
