Yetis Finish Strong in Final Meet
The Cleveland Community College Yetis Cross Country team competed in their final meet of the season in Salisbury at the Livingstone College Cross Country Invitational.
The men's team finished first among Junior Colleges ahead of Central Carolina Community College (Sanford, NC).
Isaiah Washington (RS Central 2017) had a dominating performance for the Yetis. Washington was the top JUCO runner at the meet finishing ahead of the next junior college competitor by more than three minutes. Washington medaled at the meet, finishing 10th overall in a field of 78 men's competitors that included runners from 10 four year colleges.
Makena Deaton (Kings Mountain 2019) was the top women's JUCO runner in the field. Deaton ran another personal best at the meet to finish ahead of the nearest competitor from Central Carolina by a 9 second margin. Deaton steadily increased her times during the season and finished in the first half of the field for the first time.
Caleb Barnes (Kings Mountain 2019) was the third place men's JUCO runner. Georgia Moss (Kings Mountain 2019) was third place among women's JUCO runners. In addition to Deaton, other runners posting personal bests at the meet were Noah Romich (Shelby 2018) and Kobe Farmer (Shelby 2019).
The Livingstone meet marked the second time that the Yetis men's team went head to head with the team from Central Carolina. In both meets, the Yetis finished ahead of the Cougars. And for the second time this season, the men's team topped a four year college in the overall standings. The Yetis finished ahead of the men's team from Bluefield College (VA).
In addition to host Livingstone, other colleges at the meet included Newberry, Pfeiffer, and Winston-Salem State.
