Cleveland Community Sweeps Pitt Community and Lenoir Community in Weekend Matches

Kinston, NC - On October 12, 2024, Cleveland Community College showcased its volleyball prowess with two impressive victories, first against Pitt Community College and later against Lenoir Community College.

Match 1: Cleveland vs. Pitt Community College

In a closely contested match, Cleveland triumphed over Pitt Community in four sets, finishing with scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-10.

The Yetis dominated the first and third sets, showcasing their attacking strength, led by Aziyah Rudisill, who recorded 12 kills with a remarkable hitting percentage of .435. Taija Smith also contributed significantly with 13 kills and 4 digs. The team's total of 45 kills underscored their offensive efficiency.

On the other side, Pitt's Ava Bolechowski led the charge with 13 kills, but her efforts were not enough to secure the win. The team struggled with consistency, particularly in the fourth set, where they managed only 10 points.

Match 2: Cleveland vs. Lenoir Community College

Later that day, Cleveland continued its winning streak with a clean sweep against Lenoir Community College, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-23.

Cleveland's attack was again spearheaded by Aziyah Rudisill, who recorded 14 kills. Sara Rose Warlick and Taija Smith also made significant contributions, with Warlick earning 11 kills and Smith adding 9. 

Lenoir put up a solid fight, particularly in the second and third sets, with Aysia Whitley leading their attack with 9 kills. However, Cleveland's ability to maintain pressure ultimately secured their victory.

Cleveland Community College's two victories on October 12 showcased their strength and resilience in the court. The team's offensive strategies and effective defense were pivotal in both matches, allowing them to remain competitive in their season. The Yetis play their last home match on Thursday, October 17 against Walters State at 6 pm, where the sophomore players will be recognized.
