Yetis Volleyball wins against nationally ranked Caldwell
Hudson, NC - August 22, 2024 — Cleveland Community College showcased resilience and skill as they secured a 3-1 victory over the Caldwell Cobras in a closely contested volleyball match on Thursday evening. The final scores of the sets were 25-16, 24-26, 26-24, and 26-24. Caldwell holds a number 9 national ranking in Division III JUCO.
The match opened with Cleveland dominating the first set, winning 25-16. The team displayed impressive offensive efficiency with a .267 hitting percentage, led by Aziyah Rudisill who delivered a standout performance with 18 kills and a .350 hitting percentage.
In the second set, Caldwell found their rhythm and managed to equalize with a 26-24 win. Laney Craig was instrumental for Caldwell, contributing 16 kills with a .260 hitting percentage. Despite the setback, Cleveland continued to fight.
The third set was a nail-biter, with Cleveland edging out Caldwell 26-24. The set featured strong performances from both sides, but Cleveland's ability to close out tight plays proved crucial. Chandler Jerome and Taija Smith combined for 15 kills, with Smith's .429 hitting percentage standing out.
The fourth set mirrored the intense competition of the previous ones, as Cleveland once again clinched a 26-24 victory. Cleveland's defense played a pivotal role, led by Daniela Castillo who contributed 28 digs.
