Softball Sweeps Doubleheader in Commanding Fashion Against Catawba Valley
SHELBY, N.C. — The CCC Yetis softball team delivered a dominant performance in both games of Wednesday's home doubleheader, outscoring Catawba Valley Community College 29-0 across two mercy-rule victories. Fueled by a relentless offensive surge and lights-out pitching, the Yetis improved their record and made a statement with back-to-back shutouts.
Game 1: CCC Yetis 17, CVCC 0 (5 innings)
The Yetis wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1, exploding for 17 runs on 18 hits while allowing zero hits in a no-hitter performance from pitcher Christian Beaver (W, 1-0).
Beaver was nearly untouchable in the circle, facing just 18 batters over five innings, striking out six and walking three en route to her first win of the season. She also contributed offensively, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, including a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Offensively, the Yetis were a machine. Sayge Strange led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance that included three doubles and four RBIs. Sara Rose Warlick, Austyn Dixon, and Kassie Swink also had multi-hit games, each driving in key runs.
After scoring three in the first, the Yetis piled on six more in the second, two in the third, and another six in the fourth—never letting off the gas. The team was flawless in the field with zero errors, while Catawba Valley struggled defensively with three miscues and an anemic offense that failed to record a hit.
Game 2: CCC Yetis 12, CVCC 0 (5 innings)
If the first game was a clinic, the second was an encore performance.
The Yetis broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a 10-run explosion, taking full advantage of shaky CVCC pitching and defensive lapses. The inning featured a triple by Kassie Swink, a two-run double from Austyn Dixon, and a run-scoring single by Christian Beaver. By the time the dust settled, Catawba Valley had issued four wild pitches and the Yetis had plated 10 runs on six hits.
Swink stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, and Dixon added another 3 RBIs on a 2-for-4 effort. The Yetis tacked on two more in the fourth to seal the 12-0 win.
Sayge Strange (W, 1-0) threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits over five innings with four strikeouts and only one walk. Her efficient outing ensured the Yetis preserved energy and momentum heading into the weekend.
