February 7-8, 2025 – The Cleveland Community College softball team put on an offensive showcase in a two-day, four-game series against Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, taking three out of four games in convincing fashion.
Game 1: Cleveland Cruises to a 14-4 Victory
The series opener started at Caldwell on February 7. Cleveland's bats exploded for 20 hits in a 14-4 rout over Caldwell. Catcher Austyn Dixon led the charge with a 4-for-5 performance, two home runs, and six RBIs. Second baseman Sara Rose Warlick also had a stellar outing, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs.
Pitcher Christian Beaver was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts, allowing eight hits and four earned runs over seven innings. Caldwell struggled to generate consistent offense, despite T. Estes and C. Tart contributing with extra-base hits.
Game 2: Cleveland Runs Away with 19-4 Win
The second game of the day was an even more dominant performance by Cleveland, securing a 19-4 victory in just five innings. The offense erupted early, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings. Peyton Whitson, Austyn Dixon, and Kassie Swink combined for 12 hits and seven RBIs, while Christian Beaver added a home run.
Cleveland's Sayge Strange pitched a five-inning complete game, giving up just four hits and one earned run while striking out five. Caldwell's pitching rotation had no answer, surrendering 21 hits.
Game 3: Caldwell Upsets Cleveland 5-3
On Saturday, the Yetis hosted Caldwell at home to finish the series. Caldwell bounced back in Game 3 on February 8, securing a 5-3 win. Caldwell capitalized on Cleveland's three errors and took an early 4-0 lead.
Cleveland made a late push, cutting the deficit to 5-3 in the fifth inning behind doubles from P. Whitson, A. Dixon, and S. Warlick, but was unable to complete the comeback.
S. Strange took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Caldwell's K. Clontz was efficient, limiting Cleveland's high-powered offense to just three runs on 11 hits.
Game 4: Cleveland Responds with 8-0 Shutout
Cleveland rebounded in the series finale with an 8-0 shutout, clinching their third win of the series. C. Beaver dominated on the mound, throwing a five-inning shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out five.
Offensively, Cleveland kept the pressure on early, scoring three runs in the first and adding two more in the second. K. Swink and S. Strange combined for four RBIs, while Mckenzie Norman and A. Dixon each had two-hit games.
