Yetis Shine at Royals Challenge, Garcia Sets New 8K Record
Charlotte, NC - The men's and women's cross country teams put on a remarkable performance at the Royals Challenge held at Queens University on October 11. Highlighting the event, Nehemiah Garcia shattered the CCC school record for the 8K, finishing in an astounding time of 27:56. Garcia's record-breaking run exceeded the previous mark, which had stood for nearly four years, by an impressive one minute and six seconds. The old record was held by Noah Lesser, who clocked in at 29:02 during the NJCAA championship in Fort Dodge, IA, on November 14, 2020. Lesser now coaches the Cross Country team at West Wilkes High School.
On the women's side, Leilanni Delano led the Yetis with a strong performance in the 5K race, finishing with a time of 26:49.
With these outstanding results, the Yetis Cross Country teams are poised for continued success as they prepare for the upcoming Region 10 Championship on October 26 at CCC's North Campus home course.
