Track & Field Shines at John-Hunter James Classic with Record-Breaking Performances
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Cleveland Community College Yetis put on an impressive display at the John-Hunter James Classic at Columbia International University, competing against athletes from 21 colleges and making program history with multiple standout performances.
John Davis Rewrites Record Books
Freshman John Davis stole the show, breaking two school records in the sprint events. Davis blazed through the 200-meter dash in 23.23 seconds and followed it up with a 51.68-second finish in the 400 meters, shattering both previous marks held by former record-holder Kohen Johnson. His performance solidifies him as one of the top sprinters in CCC history.
Hunter Cruise Reaches New Heights
In the field events, Hunter Cruise made program history with a third-place finish in the pole vault, marking the highest individual event placement in CCC track and field invitational history. Cruise cleared 12 feet, earning a podium finish and proving himself a rising star in the event.
Ross and Houser Reach Finals
On the women's side, Makiayah Ross made a strong statement in the long jump, advancing to the finals with an impressive leap of 16 feet, 5 inches. Meanwhile, in the throws, Justin Houser secured a spot in the men's shot put finals with a best put of 39 feet, 10.5 inches.
Vega Sets Personal Best in 5,000 Meters
Distance runner Yahir Vega continued his upward trajectory, clocking a personal-best time of 18:37 in the 5,000 meters. His dedication and endurance were on full display as he shaved significant time off his previous mark.
Looking Ahead
With strong performances and momentum on their side, the Yetis now set their sights on the Montreat Invitational on March 21-22. As records continue to fall and placements improve, CCC's track and field program is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
