Catawba Valley Powers Past Cleveland with Victory on the Road
Shelby, NC, Yetis Athletics Park - Catawba Valley Community College delivered a dominant offensive performance in their 11–4 win over the Cleveland Yetis on Wednesday afternoon. Despite recording fewer hits than their opponent, the Red Hawks capitalized on Cleveland's defensive miscues and erratic pitching to secure the road victory.
Offensive Fireworks from Catawba Valley
The Red Hawks broke open the game in the second inning when Peyton Young crushed a three-run homer to left field, giving Catawba Valley early momentum. Young later added a key RBI double in the eighth, finishing with four RBIs and two hits on the night.
Isaiah McDowell also showcased power with a solo home run in the third. He reached base four times, stole a base, and scored twice. Mason Mozeley and Carter Starnes chipped in with an RBI apiece, while Mason Hobbs drove in one and collected two hits.
In total, Catawba Valley drew 12 walks and capitalized on three defensive errors by the Yetis, turning eight hits into 11 runs.
Steady Pitching Keeps Yetis in Check
Starter Riley Campbell (W, 1–0) delivered six strong innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none. Drew Bryant took over for the final three innings, striking out five and surrendering only an unearned run.
Cleveland's bullpen struggled to contain the Red Hawks, combining for 12 walks, two wild pitches, and multiple hit batters. Starter Anthony Lopossay (L, 0–1) lasted just two innings, giving up three unearned runs.
Yetis Show Offensive Potential but Lack Execution
Despite the loss, Cleveland matched Catawba Valley in hits (10) but left seven runners on base and failed to capitalize on early momentum. Cruise Arnold's two-run homer in the fourth gave the Yetis life, and Logan Norris added an RBI triple in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to keep pace.
Nick Morris led the Yetis with two hits, including a double and a stolen base. However, Cleveland's three infield errors proved costly in a game where control and execution were the difference-makers.
