Yetis Baseball Sweeps Guilford Tech in Three-Game Series, Extend Winning Streak
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Cleveland Community College Yetis showcased their dominance over the weekend, sweeping a three-game series against Guilford Technical Community College in impressive fashion. The Yetis combined strong pitching, clutch hitting, and aggressive baserunning to outscore their opponents 24-16 across the series.
Game 1: Yetis Hold Off Late Guilford Tech Rally, Win 7-5
In the series opener, Cleveland took control early and held on for a 7-5 victory.
The Yetis got on the board in the first inning with a solo home run by Riley Stiles. They added another run in the third when Tanner Britt doubled in Stiles, but the big breakthrough came in the fifth inning. Owen Liberto homered, and Cruise Arnold crushed a two-run shot to extend the lead to 6-0.
Guilford Tech responded with five runs across the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by a two-run home run from Sam Norton, but CCC's pitching held strong. Jackson Nash (5 IP, 5 K, 0 ER) earned the win, while Andrew Hart closed it out with two scoreless innings.
Game 2: Early Offensive Explosion Leads to 8-4 Win
The second game of the doubleheader saw Cleveland jump out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and never look back.
Keontay Booker ignited the rally with a two-run single, while Owen Liberto and Laz Santos each drove in runs to put the Yetis in firm control. Stiles added to his stellar day, swiping home in the second inning for another insurance run.
Pitcher Jackson Gowan (5 IP, 9 K, 1 ER) dominated on the mound, allowing just one earned run while striking out nine. Though Guilford Tech threatened with a three-run sixth inning, relievers Kohen Orr and Liam Foley combined to shut the door and seal the win.
Game 3: Yetis Rally Late for 9-7 Victory to Complete the Sweep
Sunday's finale saw Cleveland erase an early 6-0 deficit to complete the sweep.
Guilford Tech came out swinging, with Bobby Lavely launching a grand slam in the first inning. They tacked on two more in the second to go up 6-0. However, the Yetis battled back, scoring two in the third and three in the sixth, with Evan Estes delivering a clutch two-run single.
In the ninth, the Yetis capitalized on control issues from Guilford Tech's bullpen. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a walk forced in two runs, and an error allowed Britt to cross home plate for a 9-7 lead. Closer Liam Foley shut down Guilford Tech in the final frame to complete the comeback victory.
